Alice Howe is named after a small hill behind the house. Howe is an old Lakeland word for hill.

View from the rear of the house.
Alice Howe looks out on to Orrest Head. The hill on which Alfred Wainwright took his view of the Lake District. A view that changed his life forever.

The house has 7 bedrooms, 7 bathrooms and a total of 12 individual beds.

Our galley kitchen has contemporary units on either side, with a range cooker for creating those fabulous meals!

The elegant dining room seats 14 comfortably - decorated to suit the character of this beautiful old house. A great place to dine away an evening or two.

Feature fireplace.
The fireplace in the dining room is rumored to be an exact replica of the one Augustus (AWN) Pugin also created for his better known design - The Palace of Westminster.

We have ipod docks galore plenty of places to listen your music and recharge your ipod.

Rear lounge.
The rear lounge is kept cosy and warm by a wood burning stove, which also helps heat the water. It has 3 squishy leather sofas a flatscreen TV and 200 DVD jukebox.

Family bathroom
A recent edition is the refurbishment of our two family bathrooms. With contemporary tiles and slipper baths these are a great place to soothe away those aching muscles after a hard day in the hills.

Pool table.
In the cellar we now have a pub-style slate-bed pool table. It's great to be able to have a pre-dinner game or two. Plus a good way to keep the kids busy on a rainy day.

Rear of the house
The rear of the houses taken from the path down from Orrest Head - (a great walk!) Windermere is in the distance.

Living room.
The living room has leather sofas and flat screen TV with Sony Playstation2.

In the winter a roaring open fire makes this room cosiest place in the house.
